Why I Respect Paladins

I love Paladins. They are awesome tanks. They make pretty good healers (if played right) that can take a beating until we can save them. And now the Retribution versions of them give me a little competition on the damage meters. Overall they are a pretty solid class.
But that is not why I respect them. I can describe why I respect anyone who has leveled a Paladin in two words:
It’s Boring.
Yes, you heard me right. Boring as all hell.
I’m fiddling with a Paladin alt right now and he has made it to level 14. And I have been bored off my ass the whole time. The only thing that has made it bearable is that I guilded him with some friends who I can talk to while in combat.
Yes, I said in combat.
So far I have 2 self-buffs I need to keep up, Autoattack, and the grand total of 1 offensive ability. Ok, technically 2, but they share a 10 second cooldown. Which leaves me with not a lot to do but sit there and chat with guildies while hit a button once every 10 seconds. And occasionally throw a heal on myself.
I have been assured that this alt will become a lot more interesting to play once he gets to level 20, but it’s going to be tough to get there.
So to all of you who have leveled a Paladin to level cap:

Yup, I agree. It’s mindblowing how anyone has done it especially when you play a Warrior as your main. Activating buffs and just auto-attacking does not equal fun, fast or cool.

I have a habit of trying to level classes that I can’t beat in PvP. I fear pally may be next in line. However, your posting here might prevent that. If I can’t make it to 20 without being bored to tears, it’ll just become another teen-something alt that never gets played.

I 100% agree but have to add that it gets better. I could never level a paladin up until 6 months ago. I’ve played since release. I’ve deleted countless lvl 10-16 paladins. Finally…FINALLY I got involved with POX and some RL friends. I rolled a paladin since we’d always be leveling in a 5 person group.
Once I hit lvl 20, I was ok. POX ended. Goodbye paladin.
I wanted to lvl one again though to get consecrate. It was the most amusing thing to me about the class. Gold dust flying everywhere.
Remembering that at lvl 20 things got better, allowed me to lvl Platezilla. I managed to get her to 70 a week or two before the expansion (Wrath). She’s sitting at 74 and I still love Ret very much!
I think the paladin is definitely boring at first…you just have to make it over that bad first portion.

My paladin is lvl 15 and has been for some time…I agree it’s boring. She is pretty to look at but that’s about it for me at the mo.

I leveled one to 22 years ago but could not stand playing him. Like you I found the Pally play style very very boring. I’m sure it’s better since I tried it but I still think it takes a special kind of person to want to level a pally.
